Statement from the City regarding the global impact of COVID-19

The City of Nanaimo understands and empathizes with the growing concerns surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) around the globe and in our community.

We want to take this opportunity to inform residents that we are following the regular updates and recommendations as provided by BC provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). We are also monitoring the impacts of COVID-19 both globally, nationally, locally and are proactively preparing for potential impacts on City operations and to our community.

We also understand that during such times as this, many residents would like to know what the City is doing regarding COVID-19. As a result, the City of Nanaimo is following the direction made by provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry on March 12, 2020 of cancelling gatherings of more than 250 people. At this time, there are no changes to City operations and services such as recreational programming.

An informational page on the City’s website called “City’s Response to COVID-19” has been created where updates regarding this matter will be provided as information becomes available.
